To start off, I found a blog that gives some tips/tricks to utilizing social media for learning (linked here: https://elearningindustry.com/5-ultimate-tricks-using-social-media-learning-tools).
As a summary, the blogger mentions using Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest,Twitter, and blogs for incorporating learning into the classroom. Outside of the classroom, I'm interested in how these may be utilized. I never utilized these tools in my educational experiences, so I'm not sure how they would translate to the work field--which is where a majority of my time is spent.
I currently use Facebook for advertisements, but I'd be curious in using it for learning purposes (how-to's, articles, etc.). This may be worth pursuing depending on who the followers are (employees/non-employees).
Hey Trisha,
ReplyDeleteThe website is great! I can tell you one of my experience during a workshop on using social media platforms in classroom. During that workshop, the speaker asked us to use twitter to ask questions in real-time, so that she could answer our questions in a timely manner. (Though it was a very short period of time of demonstrating such usage.)
I also searched online about social media in education. Some teachers publish homework on facebook so that parents would know what their children should do today. You can create students' portfolio via social media platforms. For example, if you teach writing or painting, you can ask students to take photos of their writing or painting. Gradually, all the photos show students progress across time.
I personally like the idea of utilizing social media to post homework assignments or a schedule/agenda. Students wouldn't be required to log on to review the assignments, but could utilize social media as a reminder, or the parents can use it to keep up with their kids' homework.
ReplyDeleteThe lessons this week (and the blog entry linked above) cautioned educators to avoid requiring students to use social media accounts--which I feel is very important. If students are uncomfortable using it, or if they are unable to get an account, it limits them compared to the other students.
Thanks for checking out my blog! :)
